Thomas will feature for Pontypridd as the Sardis Road club open proceedings against Neath on Sunday, August 25.
And he says he is looking forward to clashing with some familiar faces. Fellow international Sevens stars Lee Williams, James Davies and Jason Harries look set to feature for Carmarthen Quins while Chris Knight will be in contention for Llandovery.
It means Cardiff Arms Park will host some of the best Sevens talent in Wales at the competition on the new artificial pitch at the home of the Cardiff Blues.
"Playing at Cardiff Arms Park with the Welsh clubs will be brilliant and to have a tournament of this standard in Wales will be beneficial to us as a national Sevens squad and to the clubs themselves," said Thomas, who led Wales at the recent Sevens World Cup in Moscow.
"I think the banter will be flying about the Wales squad, we're back in next week before we play this competition so we're looking forward to it."
Thomas forms part of a Pontypridd squad which secured a first league and cup double in their history last season.
For the Foster's Sevens, Dale McIntosh is also able to call on Owen Jenkins, Rhys Shellard and new signing Alex Webber, all of whom have international sevens experience with Wales under Paul John.
Former Ystrad Rhonnda man Webber is a new face at Sardis Road after making the jump from league rugby to the IRB Sevens circuit in one foul swoop.
He now has the chance to impress at Principality Premiership level though will first be looking to lay down a marker at the Foster's Sevens.
"Alex Webber has been amazing for Wales and if we can have him for Pontypridd in this tournament it will be massive for us," added Thomas.
"We did well last year to be top seeds for this tournament and looking at our squad, we'll hopefully have the guys who are in the Wales team available."
In terms of Pontypridd's preparation for the competition, Thomas said: "We're playing the Abercynon Sevens and that's a good step ahead of the new season.
"But we'll be taking this tournament really seriously and it will be good to see our new signings and look at what they can do on a Sevens field."
