Canada, with Welshman Geraint John at the helm, have serious ambitions of becoming a major force in 7s. With raw ingredients like physicality and speed in abundance, Canada appear to be on the right track.
Canada had the ideal start with Chauncey O'Toole scoring in the first minute but Ospreys flyer Kristian Phillips raced over for two tries within the space of two minutes. With Rhys Jones adding the conversion Wales found themselves in a strong position, leading 12-5 at the break.
Things looked even rosier after the break when Richard Pugh scored for Wales to give his side a 17-5 lead but inexplicably the wheels fell off the bandwagon and Canada hit back with a triple whammy of tries through Ciaran Hearn and John Moonlight who raced over for two tries.
Earlier in the day Wales were impressive when disposing of Argentina. Alex Cuthbert, Phillips (2) and Rhys Shellard all scored tries in the first half to establish control.
Argentina hit back early in the second half with Francisco Cuneo scoring but Cuthbert stuck with his second try of the match before Manuel Montero completed the scoring with a late try for the Pumas.
