"I felt it was my fault when Keith Earls scored because I should have kicked the ball out. I cost us a try and I needed to repay the team," admitted Phillips.
"Thankfully I scored. There was a bit of defence down the blindside of that ruck, but I pushed it aside. Then there was a try from another boy from Whitland, Jonny Fox (Davies).
"We're both from the same school, so a big shout out to Whitland, it was a great day for them as well."
One of the survivors from the 2007 World Cup campaign, Phillips has performed back at his peak during this tournament and has once again proved he is among the best scrum halves in the world.
"It was an historic win for Wales - it is a great achievement. The boys were outstanding in their preparation and lead up for this game," said Phillips.
"We all have so much respect for the Irish players. I got to know them on the Lions tour and I feel sorry for them because they are all great players. But full credit to us we were superb today.
"We have worked our socks off for this and we deserved the win."
