Elsewhere, Monmouth of Division Four East produced a shock when they overcame Division Three West side Amman Utd. The Gwent side edged a tight first half going turning round 13-10 in front courtesy of a Mike Griffiths try and then pressed home their advantage in the second half with tries from Adam Seymour and Andrew Davies to run out convincing 25-10 victors.
Talywain were another Division Four side to progress into the First Round proper but only after coming from behind against Division Six West side Llangadog. The determined lower league side began the second half leading 11-7 but the difference in class eventually told and two tries from centre Luke Dingham along with seven points from the boot of Warren Hill were enough to see the home side prevail 17-11.
Llandeilo, coached by former Wales hooker Barrie Williams who makes his 100th competitive appearance for the Ospreys this weekend, travelled to Nantyglo in a battle of the Division Four's East and West divisions and it was Nantyglo of the east who walked away with the bragging rights after an 18-10 victory. Llandeilo opened the scoring through hooker Huw Davies and with Alex Vaughan-Morris adding the extras and took a 7-3 advantage into the second half but the Nantyglo pack took control after that and tries from prop Andrew Payne and second-row Steve Coles added to two penalties and conversion from Richard Powell saw the home team victorious by 18-10.
There were convincing wins too for Gardiffaith, who trounced Cefneithin 62-0 with man-of-the-match prop forward Peter Richards crashing over for two tries and Abercarn who ran five tries past their visitors Alltwen in a 29-0 triumph.
