In a match more notable for its lack of scoring opportunities than the flamboyant free-flowing rugby we have come to know from both sides, it was left to the kickers to provide the only points of the game in a 9-9 draw.
The Donnybrook fans watched a second string Leinster side battle against a full strength Blues team to take a 6-0 lead into the break. But they could only watch dejectedly as the visitors clawed their way back into the match.
Two penalties from David McAllister gave Leinster their advantage, despite the Blues dominated the forward exchanges, which ultimately saw them to claw their way back into the match and three penalties by Nick McLeod against one for Leinster's Brian O'Meara was enough to secure the draw.
Blues coach Dai Young was disappointed at the end of the match.
'We got a point and didn't deserve much more,' said Young.
'There were a lot of schoolboy errors and there will be a lot of players who are not looking forward to seeing the video.'
Scorers:
Leinster Lions:
Pens: McAllister 2, O'Meara
Cardiff Blues:
