Newport and Quins recorded their third straight win and they now head up the table with nine points each, while Cross Keys have played just two games so far this season and sit in sixth place.
The defending Premiership champions had a tough time in defeating Bedwas 12-7 at Rodney Parade. Wing Gareth Chapman grabbed the first of two tries in the opening period before Bedwas' Nathan Hill scored a fine try in the corner.
But the match was sealed when Newport full-back Andrew McCoghlin and Chapman combined to pick their way through the defence and feeding Darren Davies who cantered the 15 yds to the line.
Carmarthen Quins kept up their early season form with a crushing 37-16 win over Llandovery. The home side scored five tries in the first half to kill the game, scoring three tries in a scintillating ten-minute period.
Cross Keys turned over Cardiff 23-10 with full-back Gethin Worgan scoring 18-points. In a tight match, the lead changed hands three times in the first half, but in the end it was a deserved victory for Cross Keys.
Llanelli lost their first match of the season in a nail-biting 20-21 loss to local rivals Swansea. The 2000 crowd were treated to a fierce contest in which both sides played with intensity and commitment.
"That was as full-blooded a contest as you would expect," said a relieved Swansea coach Tony Clement after the match.
Clement watched from the sidelines as the All Whites defended for large periods of the match before Lee Davis scored the decisive penalty after 78 minutes.
Meanwhile Pontypridd edged out Caerphilly 34-31 to maintain their unbeaten record against the Castletown men and in doing so recorded their first points of the season. In the other Welsh Premiership match of the evening Llanharan left it late to snatch victory from Bridgend in a 24-23 win at the Dairy Field. The Dairymen had trailed the entire match before full-back Mark Davies kicked an injury time penalty.
