UWIC have played their old rivals Loughborough in the last two finals, and avenged the defeat of two seasons ago by claiming the title last season winning 23-7. This year promises to be the hardest battle of all as both UWIC and Loughborough boast several internationals from U19 to senior level.
UWIC had a fairly straightforward route to the final overcoming Northumbria 77-0 in their quarter-final and the University of Gloucester 53-0 in the semis.
UWIC are lead by centre Jilly Holroyd who believes this game will be by far the best of the three against Loughborough. "We've met them twice before and as the title holder's it's a massive game for us. We've got some great players and the sense of belief in the squad is fantastic. It's always a big occasion, to be able to play in such a venue isn't only a wonderful experience, but a great advert for women's rugby as a whole."
Not to be outdone by the ladies, UWIC men's 1st and 2nd XV have also reached their respective finals. The 1st XV will kick off at Twickenham after the ladies final.
With rugby fever hitting UWIC's Cyncoed campus, the M4 will hopefully be busy with several supporters' buses. Supporters' buses have been organised by the UWIC AU leaving Cyncoed Campus at 8am to travel up to the games. For more information please contact SU President Andrew Howard on 02920 416190. Bookings must be made no later that Friday 25th April.
