Ryan has captained Wales on a record 29 occasions, a record he held jointly previously with winger Ieuan Evans. He overtook Evans on 16 November 2012 when leading Wales out in their surprise defeat to Samoa in Cardiff.
Jones started against Ireland in the opening match of the RBS 6 Nations tournament in 2012 and at lock against Scotland. Despite dropping to the bench for the remainder, he joined the pantheon of Welsh greats by winning a third Grand Slam.
A versatile player, Jones can play No 8, flanker or in the second row. He is among a small group of Welsh players who have won three Grand Slams - he was involved in the 2005, 2008 (where he was captain) and 2012 successes with Wales.
Jones was involved in four games during the RWC 2011, filling in at blindside flanker in the absence of Dan Lydiate, and also in his favoured No. 8 position.
He made his Test debut against South Africa in 2004 and played in four of the 2005 Grand Slam matches. He then captained Wales to the 2008 Grand Slam.
Jones joined the 2005 British & Irish Lions in New Zealand as a replacement and went on to shine in all three Tests. He had led Wales to two wins on the tour in North America in 2009 when he was called up for a second Lions trip but a day after arriving in South Africa he returned home suffering from concussion he had incurred on the North American tour.
He has been a part of three Celtic League winning squads with the Ospreys.
