Nia was voted the Scarlets Under 18 Player of the Season for 2010/11. She earned her first cap as second half replacement for captain Rachel Taylor in the narrow 10-12 defeat against Ireland in the opening round of the 2013 Six Nations.
After playing in the 2014 Women's World Cup in France, the tough tackling flanker took a break from international rugby before returning to the Wales squad for the 2016/17 Six Nations.
