Gareth Williams, previously of Pontypridd and Bridgend, joined the Cardiff Blues in 2003. He has made nearly sixty appearances for the region and has scored a total of seven tries for the Blues to date.

Williams enjoyed a successful 2006–2007 season, playing on seventeen occasions for the Welsh region. He gained one try, in the crucial Magners League victory over Leinster at the close of the season.

Williams's end of season form led to a call-up to the Welsh national squad for the tour to Australia in May to cover injuries. Ironically, Williams sustained a calf muscle injury whilst training Down Under, forcing him to fly home early and take no part in either Test.

Williams has represented Wales at senior level, earning five caps, four of which were in the 2003 RBS Six Nations. Williams also has one Wales A Cap, earned against Uruguay in November 2001.

In March 2008 Williams was called into Warren Gatland's RBS Six Nations Grand Slam winning squad as bench cover for Huw Bennett (withdrawn through illness), for the Triple Crown clash with Ireland at Croke Park.
