Cardiff Blues lock Deiniol Jones was called into Warren Gatland's RBS Six Nations squad in February 2008 as cover for the injured Alun Wyn Jones but impressed after coming off the bench in the victories over Scotland and Italy at the Millennium Stadium in the Grand Slam winning campaign.

Jones joined the Blues in 2004. Born in Carmarthen, he started out with Celtic Warriors as the age of Regionalism began and his previous clubs include Ebbw Vale and Bridgend. Jones had a strong 2006–2007 season with the Blues; he played on thirty occasions for the region and scored one try, against Worcester in a pre-season friendly in August. Jones has made over eighty appearances for the Blues to date.

Jones has also previously represented the Wales A team and Wales U21.
