Ospreys stun Toulouse
The Ospreys have given themselves an outside chance of making it out of Pool 2 of the Heineken Cup with a thoroughly deserved 17-6 victory over former champions Toulouse at the Liberty Stadium.
The Welsh region gained revenge in style after coming off second best last weekend in France against Toulouse. The Ospreys tackled themselves to a standstill while winger Eli Walker had a second half he will dream about for years to come.
Every time he got the ball he looked dangerous. With a disappointing Toulouse hanging on tenaciously Walker took the game away from them when he squeezed in at the corner leaving his opposite number Yoann Huget clutching thin air.
Toulouse were a shadow of their former selves. The French giants were unusually indecisive in attack, lacked shape or structure in defence and generally looked bereft of any ideas on how to break through the dogged Ospreys defence.
The last move of the match was indicative of Toulouse's day. Luke Burgess broke out from near his own line to take the ball deep inside the Ospreys half. With the home defence floundering in defence, Burgess was tackled but scooped the ball up to Vincent Clerc who simply had to pass the ball to an unmarked Maxime Médard but the winger butchered the try by throwing the ball into touch. In doing so Toulouse were denied an invaluable losing bonus point which could come back to haunt them.
The Ospreys remain in third place in the pool but with nine points they are only five points behind leaders Leciester who used their get out of jail card with a one point victory over Treviso, and Toulouse are second with 13 points.
There was also the added bonus to see the re-appearance of Adam Jones after a lengthy lay-off due to injury, however he failed to last the distance after coming in from the side in an attempt to stop a rolling maul with five minutes remaining.
