In March 2008 Wales leading Energy Company SWALEC became the Official Community Partner of the WRU, sponsoring the SWALEC National Leagues, as well as becoming the primary partner of the International age grade teams.
The sponsorship also saw the return of the SWALEC Cup. The Welsh National club competition was last branded as the SWALEC Cup in 1999, when the trophy was won by Swansea who defeated Llanelli by 37 points to 10 at Ninian Park in Cardiff.
The agreement sees SWALEC extend its portfolio of over 1 million Welsh customers by providing the power to the Millennium Stadium, home of the Welsh Dragons.
We're also delighted to have launched an electricity and gas tariff called Welsh Rugby with SWALEC which gives SWALEC League clubs free kit and equipment.
By switching to Welsh Rugby from SWALEC, customers reward their chosen club with a £20 voucher for Webs Ellis kit and equipment redeemable at trade prices and then a £10 voucher for every year that they remain a customer. They'll also enjoy a product which costs no more than SWALEC standard electricity and gas price and is packed full of customer perks. More information on this can be found at swalec.co.uk/rugby
SWALEC is committed to developing rugby at all levels throughout Wales. We see the WRU partnership as a coming together of two leading Welsh brands, with traditional links with Wales and its people.
