Principality Premiership 2005-2006 Awards
Alun-Wyn Jones celebrates his success whilst on tour with Wales in Argentina

2005-2006: Best Newcomer Award: Alun-Wyn Jones, Swansea
Alun Wyn Jones was named as the Principality Premiership's Best Newcomer at the first annual awards presentation at the Millennium Stadium June 2006.

At the time of winning the award, Jones was still a Wales team hopeful and celebrated winning the award whilst away touring with the national team in Argentina, days away from winning his first Wales cap. The then Swansea and Ospreys lock made a huge impact at every level during the 2005-2006 season and bolstered his club and regional performances by starring for Wales U21 during their U21 Six Nations campaign.

Jones beat his then clubmate Richard Hibbard, who also toured Argentina in 2006 and also flanker Adam Witney to the award receiving a £200 cheque from Principality Building Society in recognition.

Alun-Wyn Jones went on to win his first Wales cap on the Argentina tour and was a Wales regular by the time of the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.

2005-2006: Player of the Year Award: Phil Dolman, Bedwas
Bedwas centre Phil Dolman was named as the Principality Premiership Player of the Year during the inaugural awards ceremony beating the then uncapped Wales hopeful James Hook to the title.

Dolman grew as a hugely influential figure for Bedwas as the 2005-2006 season progressed and he ended up being voted the club's Player of the Year and the club's players' Player of the Year.

Dolman's Principality Player of the Year award added to his first award from the Premiership's sponsor; the Principality Player of the Month award which he had secured in December 2005.

A former UWIC centre, Dolman's efforts earned him £200 from Principality Building Society off the field, and a development contract with the Dragons on the field where he went on to make first team appearances during the 2007-2008 season.

Phil Dolman's efforts that earned him the Player of the Year award in 2006 won him a Dragons' development contract which to date has culminated in first team appearances for the region
