Twinkle-toed Wales wing Shane Williams says he wants to be one of the stars of the Rugby World Cup and confirmed he hopes to play some part against France in the Invesco Perpetual Summer Series.
“I want to be the best in the world, there is no better accolade than that. You are testing yourself against the best players in the Rugby World Cup and I want to come home having done really well with Wales, and personally,” he said.

“I want people to be talking about me saying I am playing the best rugby of my life and hopefully was one of the best players of the tournament.

“There are some world class players such as Sitiveni Sivivatu, Joe Rokocoko and Bryan Habana and if you play well against them you know you have had a good game.

“I want to be up there with the likes of them and we will see after this World Cup.”

Ospreys flyer Williams had operations on his elbow and shoulder over the summer and will not play until the France game at the earliest. However, he confirmed he will be fit for the tournament when it kicks off in France.

“I will definitely make it. I did not realise the severity of the operation and it kept me out for two months; it was a gamble I suppose but it went pretty well,” he said.

“It has worked out really well for me. I have been able to do a lot more fitness in pre-season rather than strength work and a bit more speed work as well and it has gone exceptionally well for me as well.

“I would like to be involved in the French game certainly. Whether I start or am involved in any way shape or form, that is my target so we will have to wait and see. I would like to get some minutes under my belt before it all starts.

“I cannot wait to get on the field. I have been doing a lot of it in training but it is different when someone is trying to take your head off.”
