This weekend’s European clean sweep by Welsh teams was only the second time in twelve seasons of European rugby...
The first occasion came in Round 3 of the 2000/01 Heineken Cup.

The results were as follows:

L'Aquila 6 Swansea 70
Saracens 23 Cardiff 32
Newport 21 Castres 20
Llanelli 46 Roma 0
Pontypridd 18 Leicester 11

The three wins in the opening rounds of this season's competition were:

Heineken Cup
Ospreys 17 Sale Sharks 16
London Irish 25 Scarlets 32
Bourgoin 5 Blues 13
European Challenge Cup: Dragons 50 Bayonne 3

The Blues' win in Bourgoin made them only the second Welsh side to win on French soil.

The Scarlets were the first to win in France when they beat Bourgoin in 1999/2000 (30-36) with new ERC Elite Award winner Dafydd James scoring two if his tournament record 25 tries.

The following season they defeated Colomiers 6-19

The Blues' record in France now reads: P12, W1, D1, L10.

In total in the Heineken Cup, 11 Welsh clubs have the following record in France:
P52, W3, D1, L48

The breakdown is as follows:
