The home fans were not disappointed as two tries from wing Lou Rickard and 13 points from the boot of fullback Non Evans ensured Wales Women's first win of their Six Nations campaign. Wales Women's Head Coach Jason Lewis is confident his side's Six Nations campaign is now back on track following a heavy loss to England last weekend (55-0).

"We produced a much improved performance on last week's outing, particularly in the first half," he said. "This win and performance has put our campaign back on course which was important after the disappointing result last week. We have Italy next – at home – and if we win that game we will travel away to Ireland with everything to play for."

Wales Women opened the scoring with an Evans penalty after seven minutes but Scotland Women soon replied with three points of their own through scrum half Sarah Gill. Louise Rickard, winning her 97th cap for Wales Women, scored her first try after being on the end of some good running and handling from Evans and captain Mel Berry, with Evans's conversion taking Wales Women to a 10-3 lead at the break.

Scotland Women piled on the pressure after half time and were rewarded with a penalty which scrum half Gill converted. They were also strong in defence, keeping Wales Women away from their try line despite numerous attacks from the Welsh backs.

However, they did come away from the Scotland Women's 22 with two penalties, both from Evans, who was winning her 65th cap. Rickard got her second try in injury time after Wales Women had put some width on the ball and Evans added the extras. Wales Women return to Taffs Well in a fortnight when they take on the Azzurri (Sunday February 24th, 1pm).
