Welsh Team Coach In Townships

The Welsh Women's Rugby team visited Bertram High School in one of the Northern townships of Port Elizabeth to deliver coaching sessions to the schoolgirls this morning. The catchment area surrounding the school is one of the poorest areas in the Eastern Province.

The girls, all aged between 14 and 18 had never been given the opportunity to play rugby and the Welsh squad taught them basic skills and played touch rugby with them in the hour-long session.

Head of Sport at the school, Roderick Rossouw commented, "This is a very poor school but there is a rich rugby culture here. We have four boys' rugby teams within the school and I'm delighted that the girls have been given this opportunity. We are very grateful to the Welsh squad."

Tour captain Kylie Wilson added, "Today has been a real eye-opener. We've had a fantastic time here. The children are so enthusiastic and I hope they can continue to play rugby after we've gone."
