Aberystwyth product Dafydd Jones joined the Scarlets region in 1999, making his debut against Leicester Tigers. His previous sides include Aberaeron, Llandovery RFC and he has played for Llanelli at U17, U19 and U21 levels.

Jones has twenty-nine caps and two tries for Wales. He made his debut against Fiji in 2002 and played in the 2003 Rugby World Cup. He has also played for the Wales Development XV and Wales Sevens and A teams.

Jones underwent shoulder reconstruction in the summer of 2006, having missed virtually all of the last two seasons with groin, hand and ankle injuries before his shoulder problems.

Jones made his first appearance of the 2006–2007 season in the EDF Energy Cup loss to Sale Sharks in December. He made a total of 17 appearances for the Scarlets during the season and scored one try in the Magners League match with Glasgow in February.

In April 2008 Jones was a late call-up to Wales Head Coach Warren Gatland's squad for an intensive training week in Wexford, Ireland, to take place at the start of May.
