Emyr Wyn Lewis won 41 caps for Wales between 1991 and 1996. He made his international debut against Ireland in the 1991 Five Nations; the match finished in a 21-all draw.

Lewis represented Wales in both 1991 and 1995 Rugby World Cups; he played in all three Welsh matches in the earlier event and against Japan and Ireland in the latter tournament. Lewis made his final international appearance in the 1996 Five Nations victory over France – he was recalled to the squad in 2000 but was an unused bench replacement for the match against Ireland in the Six Nations.

Domestically, Lewis has played with Llanelli RFC and Cardiff RFC. He was part of the Llanelli side that beat Australia in 1992; that year also saw Lewis gain the distinction of Welsh Player of the Year. Lewis moved to Cardiff in the 1994–1995 season and captained the side during his eight year spell at the club.

Lewis returned to the Llanelli Scarlets in 2003 and left the club at the end of the season to become player-coach at Felinfoel.
