The Swansea hooker was a key player in the 2001 World Cup, scoring a try against Australia in the 3rd/4th place final. His mobility around the pitch has cemented his place in the starting XV this season for the Welsh U19s.
Coach Dai Rees said:"Huw has been the backbone of the squad. He has been capped at U16 and U18 level for England and we are very lucky that he chose his fatherland. During the autumn internationals, Huw was very supportive of captain Ioan before his injury and Huw is the natural successor."
The Welsh Youth U19s are seeded 3rd after Australia's withdrawal in favour of development tours. In their opening match, the young dragons take on Georgia. If successful, Wales will face the winner of Argentina v Japan on 24 March. Wales are likely to challenge France in the semi-final on 27 March with the tournament concluding 30 March.
