Ieuan Cennydd Evans made his debut for Wales in a loss to France in the 1987 Five Nations Championship. Evans won seventy-two caps for Wales, captaining the national side on twenty-eight of those appearances. He scored a total of thirty-three tries for Wales and one for the British and Irish Lions, Evans gained seven representative caps during the tour of Australia in 1989, New Zealand in 1993 and South Africa in 1997.

Evans represented Wales at the first three Rugby World Cups in 1987, 1991 and 1995. He captained the Welsh side at the 1991 tournament and through their 1995 World Cup qualifying games. Evans also led the Wales team to the 1994 Five Nations Championship.

Evans began playing rugby whilst at Queen Elizabeth School in Carmarthen and later moved onto the youth side at Carmarthen Quins. Evans joined Llanelli RFC at the age of nineteen and in his club career at Llanelli he won every domestic honour available. In 1997 he moved to Bath and was part of the team that won the Heineken Cup in 1998. Evans announced his retirement from rugby in the same year.

Evans has a degree in Geography from Salford University. He received an MBE in 1996 for services to sport in general and Rugby Football in particular. Evans runs his own PR company and is a regular broadcaster in the mediums of Welsh and English.
