| Michael Owen made his Wales debut against South Africa in 2002. He has captained Wales on five occasions between 2005 and 2006, becoming Wales's 122nd captain.
Owen was a star of Wales's Grand Slam campaign in 2005, captaining the side in Gareth Thomas's absence, and taking the armband for the Lions game against Argentina.
Owen plays domestically for the Newport Gwent Dragons, and previously played at Pontypridd. He enjoyed a successful 2006-2007 season with the Dragons, making 25 appearances and notching a sole try against Bayonne in the European Challenge Cup.
Owen received a late call-up to the 2006 Invesco Perpetual Series squad, and made an appearance in the victory over the Pacific Islands.
After missing out on a squad call-up for the 2007 RBS Six Nations, Owen was named in Gareth Jenkins's squad for the two-Test tour of Australia in May. He came on as a replacement in the first test and made the starting XV for the second Test defeat in Brisbane.
Following the tour Down Under, Owen was included in Wales's 41-man preliminary Rugby World Cup 2007 summer training squad and made the final 30-man cut after appearing in the Test defeat to England. He made substitute appearances in all four of Wales's Pool B matches at the Rugby World Cup. In November 2007, Owen was selected to train as part of an extended Wales squad ahead of the Prince William Cup clash with South Africa but did not make the final 22.
