| Celebrating the work carried out by volunteers is a crucial part of volunteer management. It is important that the time and commitment given by volunteers is recognised and respected. Showing appreciation to volunteers will help increase an individual’s enthusiasm, self-esteem and hopefully their commitment to the club. So recognition is beneficial for everyone and it is well worth spending the time and effort to get it right. This section explains the various ways a club can recognise volunteers and how the WRU are committing to this important area. |
|
Ideas for Clubs: It is important that any recognition given is fair, consistent and frequent, but how you actually go about this, is entirely up to you. We already know that some clubs have fantastic ways to appreciate their volunteers and this section has been compiled from the ideas already out there.
01) A simple verbal thank you. This informal method, is the simplest method of any, but is often forgotten
02) Thank you cards
03) Name mentioned on the club website, match programmes or in the local press
04) End of season presentation dinner with specific awards for volunteers
05) Discounted/free club membership
06) A free item of club clothing
07) Volunteer honours boards, recognising a certain period of commitment to the club
08) Funding to attend a relevant course. This will benefit the club just as much as the individual
09) Nomination to the WRU Hall of Fame (see below)
10) Nomination for external awards (see below)

The WRU would like to celebrate the work being carried out by rugby volunteers across Wales on this webpage and to do this, we need your help! So, if you think there is someone at your local rugby club that deserves recognition, please complete and submit the online form. It would be great if we could also have a photo (a head shot, like the example shown) to post on the WRU Volunteer Mural. Please state on the form if a photo is available. |
