Another important area of volunteer management is how a club can help develop volunteers. In most cases it is likely that a volunteer will want to improve and develop in their role, whatever that may be. A club can assist the volunteer in doing this by helping to fund relevant courses for the volunteer to attend. There are avenues of public funding that a club can tap into to pay for these courses, the most common example being the Sports Council for Wales Community Chest Award. This will mean volunteers can develop with no direct cost to the club.
We have provided below, information about courses your volunteers may be interested in attending.
Volunteer Coaches: The WRU runs its own rugby coaching courses, right from a foundation to an elite level. Courses for volunteer coaches are run by the Regional Community Rugby Departments and further information can be found by clicking here.
Volunteer Referees: The WRU Referee Department runs its own courses for any future or developing referee. Further information about these courses can be found by clicking here.
Volunteer First Aiders: Although the WRU does not provide first-aid courses, a number of good courses are run across Wales. Some links to the most popular courses can be found below.

The International Rugby Board Administrators Academy was established in 2007 and is a joint initiative of the World Academy of Sport and the IRB. Its aim is to deliver programmes for all levels of administrators in the rugby community. The majority of administrator programmes for officials, office bearers, and staff will be delivered at the Manchester Business School.
