| Former Counties Manukau Steelers scrum half Kevin Farrell has signed for Neath. |
Farrell has been travelling Europe and touched base with his old friend, Neath flanker John Bowd.
After a suggestion from Bowd to go along to a Welsh All Blacks training session to experience life at the Gnoll, the 27-year-old impressed with his playing skills.
The coaching team at Neath Rugby managed to persuade the scrum half to stay in Wales and be part of the Neath set-up during the 2008/09 season.
Farrell is set to play his first game for Neath live on S4C tomorrow when the All Blacks take on Newport.
Head Coach Patrick Horgan commented: “Kevin is an experienced player who really impressed us when he attended a training session with Bowdy a few weeks ago. This is a great opportunity for him to sample life in another country while doing what he loves, which is of course playing rugby.”
Farrell commented: “When I came to the UK my intentions were to simply travel, but old pal John Bowd seemed to have other ideas and persuaded me to come to the Gnoll for a session. As a New Zealander it’s always been my dream to be an All Black, so to be playing for the Welsh All Blacks come Saturday is the next best thing.” |
