| The SWALEC League season may be only five weeks old but already Llantrisant have sent an ominous warning to the rest of Division Two East with their unbeaten start. |
They were made to work hard for their fourth victory on the bounce, 25-19 at Abergavenny, but tries from Martin Bettinson, two, Rhys King and Jonathan Williams ensured the Black Army have only dropped two of a maximum 20 points.
The bonus point opened a four-point advantage over second place Gilfach Goch who won 5-0 at Abercynon after Andrew Pridy's try proved enough to settle a dour game.
Similarly Tredegar's Leighton Simms grabbed the only try, proving enough to see off Rhydyfelin 8-6 while Richard John and Mark McKee denied Treherbert a first win as Fleur de Lys leapt to sixth place with a 12-9 win.
Nelson stormed to the top of Division Three East after brushing aside New Tredegar with ease, 29-3, while Gwernyfed crashed 29-20 at Rhymney. Pontypool United overcame Pill Harriers 16-6.
Llantwit Fardre took advantage of leaders Treorchy's postponed game by jumping three places into pole position by comfortably beating Aberdare 39-5. Paul Davies scored twice along with Dean Thomas, James Allen and Kieran Evans.
Machen were beaten for the first time in Division Four by a late drop goal as Tredegar Ironsides clinched a dramatic 23-22 win
Luke Jarvis scored late to keep Abercwmboi top of Division Five with a 5-3 win over Heol y Cyw. Abercarn beat Blaenavon 24-0 to stay top of Division Five East while Barry are now six points clear in Division Five south-east after running three tries in a 25-16 home win over Old Penarthians. |
