"Follow my lead" - says Willis

All Black hardman Tom Willis has told his Dragons team-mates: Follow my lead.
Willis was handed the captain's armband by Paul Turner within three months of signing on from Waikato Chiefs.

And the Kiwi hooker has warned his team-mates he will set high standards this season.

Willis, 29, said: "I want to change and improve things here. Paul told me that the captaincy would be a possibility when I signed.

"I am happy to take on the responsibility because we've got some good young players who needed guidance. We need to act professionally and believe that this is a strong environment we're creating."

Willis' first assignment as Dragons skipper pits him against Glasgow Warriors as the new Magners League season kicks-off on Friday night.

And the five-cap New Zealand star is well aware he must produce stand-out performances to impress the Rodney Parade faithful.

Willis said: "My main job is to lead by example on the field and make the other players follow. I've played under great captains before like former All Black captain Anton Oliver and that was his way.

"Actions speak louder than words and the results on the field is the most important part. "We must look to improve in every game and if we get our performances right, then I've no doubts the results will follow."
