Cardiff Blues and Wales wing Chris Czekaj has made a successful return to rugby with his first competitive match for a year.
Czekaj suffered a horrific injury when Wales were beaten 31-0 in Australia last July, The player broke his right leg in five places in a collision followed by an awkward, twisting fall.

One of those breaks was to the femur – the thigh bone – one of the strongest bones in the human body and Czekaj needed a steel rod inserted into the joint to provide stability and strength to the shattered bone.

But one year on, the 23-year-old impressed as he turned out for his region against a Combined Blues Premiership XV at Sardis Road.

It was the first match of the season and the regional side ran in nine tries in a 51-3 victory.

Czekaj played 30 minutes but left the scoring for his team-mates, with Richard Mustoe the stand out player scoring a hat trick.
