Coaching Education Programme
Community Coaching
In January 2005, the Welsh Rugby Union introduced a new set of coaching qualifications. These qualifications were developed in conjunction with the RFU, SRU and 1st4Sport, the awarding body. The new qualifications are recognised by all three of the home unions in Great Britain and come at four different levels (1-4).
Persons interested in beginning a career in coaching can start by attending a Tag rugby course, which provides an introduction to coaching the non-contact version of the game.

Those wishing to coach the contact version of the sport need to attend a Rugby Ready course. The Rugby Ready course, developed by the International Rugby Board, is the foundation required for acceptance on to a Level 1 course and is a required competence at Level 1.

Evidence of attainment of the competence is obtained by completion of the on-line version of the course, after attending the practical Rugby Ready course in your local region.

Following attendance at the practical Rugby Ready course and having completed the online version, coaches can apply (online with effect from 31st January, 2009 for course starting after 31st March 2009) to attend a Level 1 course. The certificate of completion of the on-line Rugby Ready course will need to be produced at the Level 1 course. Successful completion of the Level 1 course enables the coach to apply for admission on to a Level 2 course.

Successful completion of the Level 2 course and a satisfactory period of practical experience and progress will allow coaches to apply to attend a Level 3 course.

Attendance at Level 4 is by invitation only.
All courses are available on a regional basis at a variety of locations within each region. Courses in the Scarlets region apply geographically to West Wales, North Wales is covered as a separate coaching region making a total of five available regions within which a course can be attended accross Wales. The costs and duration of courses applies as follows:
