English Super League goes Celtic
9 January 2007, 11:48 am
By WRU
The Rugby Football Union for Women’s successful Super League (SL) competition returns again this season but with a new twist.
The 2007 competition sees the inclusion of Celtic team bringing together the best players from Wales, Scotland and Ireland to battle it out against the cream of the English crop.

The round robin tournament will consist of three teams of English players and one of Celts which will provide the highest level of domestic competition ever. The top two teams at the end of the round robin matches will play at Twickenham as a curtain raiser to the Guinness Premiership final. It is hoped that the selected Welsh players will develop in this highly competitive environment, allowing for invaluable experience for future international rugby.

Player Application Procedure
Players who would like to attend trials for the Celtic squad should complete an application form. When completed this needs to be returned to Sophie Bennett at the WWRU for approval by 12th February 2007. Each union will then forward all applications received to the RFUW by the closing date of 28th February 2007.

Celtic team trials will take place on Saturday 24th March 2007 in South West London. The Celtic team players will be selected by RFUW appointed Celtic Coaches (click here or check the RFUW website for staff vacancy details), Celtic Players will be contracted to the RFUW for the period of the tournament.
