Wales coach Gareth Jenkins today announced that Scarlets flanker Gavin Thomas will replace withdrawn Worcester Warriors prop Chris Horsman on the replacements bench for the clash with Australia at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.
"Due to the lack of availability of any of the tight head prop specialists we have looked at we have had to consider a different option on the bench," said Jenkins.

"Gavin obviously presents us with different qualities and he will be able to come on and make an impact in the back row if necessary. That's a real plus point for us in what is a regretable situation with Chris having to withdraw for well-documented reasons.

"The challenge for us now is to adapt and use the strength we already have on the pitch in the front row, also provided by Rhys Thomas and Duncan Jones from the bench, and take advantage of the different attributes which Gavin has to offer as a replacement."

Meanwhile, after training with the squad all week, Newport Gwent Dragons forward Michael Owen has now officially joined the squad in light of Ospreys second row forward Brent Cockbain's twenty day suspension, announced yesterday.

"No one is more disappointed than Brent, but he will learn from his mistake and we are more than happy to have someone of the quality of Michael Owen to call on to provide the necessary cover in his position," added Jenkins.
