Wales Look Sharp For Italian Trip

Wales players will cut a fine figure when they roll up at the Stadio Flaminio Stadium in Rome for the opening match of their RBS Six Nations campaign on Saturday - thanks to shirt sponsors Rockport.

Clad in imposing black leather jackets, chinos and the finest quality leather shoes, Wales will be a match for their stylish Italian opponents in terms of sartorial elegance - and they hope that self-confidence can trip over onto the pitch.

The trendy film-star look should dispel all thoughts of the Azzurri possessing any superior characteristics, whether on the catwalk or on the rugby pitch.

'There's always been a lot of psychology in sport,' admitted Wales team manager Alan Phillips.

'If you get your head right before you start to play, that's half the battle. It's the same thinking when football teams get themselves suited and booted before a big Cup Final.

'This kit will be like a uniform to us throughout the Six Nations. Team management and players alike will wear the same stuff at the same time and it's all part of the sense of togetherness and professionalism we are trying to perpetuate.

'Plus, if you look good and feel good, that self-esteem is bound to play a part in how you approach a game.'

Rockport have supplied more than three different outfits to the Wales squad, all highly fashionable clothing aimed at ensuring the players are as comfortable as possible when they are off the field.

And, although the fashion company launched their shirt sponsorship and official kit supplier status at the start of the season, this full leisure wear range is only being unveiled for the Six Nations.

'Rockport's branding strategy fits in with the professional sporting approach taken by Wales,' added Rockport marketing manager Fiona Campbell-Reilly.

'We decided that the best way to maximise the value of our sponsorship was to ensure the players get the full range of benefits Rockport has to offer - and we think they are looking pretty sharp with it.'
