CELTIC CHAMPIONS CONFIRM WILLIAMS'S CAPTAINCY

Ospreys Rugby today confirmed that they will again be led by Barry Williams during the 2005/2006 season. Regional Rugby Manager, Derwyn Jones was delighted Williams is to retain the capain's armband in what has been described as their toughest season ever.

"Barry has done an outstanding job since he took over as captain," said Jones. "He sets the standard through his leadership and playing ability and this culminated in him leading us to lifting the Celtic League trophy last season. He is hugely respected by players and the opposition and it is right that he should retain the captaincy for the forthcoming season"


And the further good news for the Ospreys is the confirmed the signing of four outstanding young players in Alun Wyn-Jones (Second Row from Swansea RFC), Ian Evans (Second Row from Neath Rugby), Andrew Bishop (Centre from Neath Rugby) and Lee Beach (Back row from Neath Rugby).


Alun Wyn-Jones is 20 years old, stands at 6ft 5in and weighs 18st 7lbs - he is a Wales U21 international, Ian Evans is 20 years old, stands at 6ft 7in and weighs 17st - he is a Wales U21 international, Andrew Bishop is 19 years old, stands at 6ft and weighs 14st - he is a Wales U21 international, Lee Beach is 22 years old, stands at 6ft 2in and weighs 16st 7lbs - he is a Wales U21 "A" international.


And Jones, who will play a key part in the development of the young players said: "Successful sides strike the balance between having the optimum mix of experienced players and young talent, and we are pleased to confirm the signing of four of the most talented young players in Welsh rugby.


"Lee Beech had an outstanding season with the successful Neath side of last year and he is rewarded with a full time contract with the Ospreys. Ian Evans and Alun Wyn Jones have both impressed within the professional environments offered through the Ospreys Academy and the Neath and Swansea club sides.


"Andrew Bishop has already tasted success in an Ospreys shirt and is one of the most talented Welsh centres to have come along in recent years. Three of these guys have been part of the Wales U21 Grand Slam winning squad and I am delighted they have committed their future to Ospreys Rugby."
