Martyn Williams is hoping to have one more stab at winning a place in the Lions Test team when he turns out for the midweek side against Auckland tomorrow.
The beleagured tourists made a number of changes from the first Test for last weekend's second Test in Wellington. And although the side played with far greater gusto, Williams is still in the frame for a place, on the bench at least.

"I can only do my best and if I do that then who knows," said the Wales openside. "We are desperately keen as a side to do well because it has been a very difficult couple of weeks. However, the boys did well against Manawatu last week and if we can perform tomorrow it will give the Test team a significant boost."

Williams is joined in the back row by Michael Owen and Jason White; the Scot making his first appearance since arriving as a late replacement for Richard Hill. Williams said: "It is a great experience to play alongside so many different player and I am looking forward to playing with Jason."

There is no place in the side for Brent Cockbain although Williams said: "I am sure he will get an opportunity during the game. I thought he did well when he came on last week. That is all you can ask for."

The British & Irish Lions have chosen just two Welshmen in the starting line up for Tuesday's game against Auckland at Eden Park. Sir Clive Woodward has named seven English players in the XV and another three on the bench.
