QUINS TRIUMPHANT IN BIRCHGROVE 7s
15 August 2005, 11:49 am
By WRU

Six teams from all over South Wales played each other in a pool stage, with some exceptionally close games proving the ever-increasing strength of the sport. At the end of this stage both Fishguard & Goodwick, and the hosts, Birchgrove, were knocked out, with the top 4 progressing into the semi-finals.

With a clear run and a points count of 126, Cardiff Quins faced 4th placed Tycroes, while 2nd placed Tylorstown came up against Pontyclun.

Quins maintained their unbeaten run to put themselves into the final, despite a very valiant effort and some outstanding play from Tycroes. After a draw between Tylorstown and Pontyclun in the pool stage, the second semi-final was set to be a corker. Both sides duly delivered with Pontyclun narrowly edging out Tylorstown to move on into the final.

Both Quins and Pontyclun put in some strong running and powerful hits, but it was the Cardiff side that came out on top to claim the trophy.
