THE MILLENNIUM STADIUM CHARITABLE TRUST CELEBRATES £1 MILLION GRANT LANDMARK
2 February 2005, 11:11 am
By WRU
An event sponsored by HSBC was held in the Arms Park Suite in the Millennium Stadium to celebrate the milestone.  A mural painted by school children from the Rhondda who have benefited from the money raised, was also unveiled.

One percent of all tickets sold to public events at the Millennium Stadium since the Trust’s launch three and a half years ago in February 2001 have been donated, allowing the Trust to invest in nearly 300 inspirational projects that have taken place across the length and breadth of Wales.

Tom Jones OBE, the Trust’s Chairman, paid tribute to the people who have benefited from funds provided by the trust:

“I am delighted to announce the Trust has now been able to distribute more than £1 million.  We are able to provide such a diverse range of products and make real difference to people’s lives by helping to deliver opportunities”

He also added:

“It is of course thanks to the public who have contributed to the Trust by buying tickets to events at the Stadium that this has all been possible.”

The Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust was established through an agreement between Millennium Stadium plc and the Millennium Commission.  Its board of voluntary trustees have chosen to make grants available on a local, regional and national basis in the following four categories – Sports, The Arts, the Community and the Environment.  Particular emphasis has been given to those who face discrimination or disadvantage.
