Cardiff Quins booked a place in the final of the WWRU Plate Competition yesterday, 7th May, with a 51-31 victory over Tycroes at Llandovery RFC.
The sun shone on a very entertaining match with both teams scoring a number of well-worked tries. It was the impressive forwards display from the Quins pack, however, that proved to be the x-factor as they dominated the set-piece from the outset.   Lock Anwen Hopkins was a real threat in the line-out stealing a number of impressive line-out balls from the opposition’s grasp.

Becky Davies, Quins’ scrum-half looked very sharp racking up 4 tries, Jilly Holroyd scored 3 and forwards Jen Hustler and Kim ‘Gerty’ Parry both notched up one each.

Tycroes showed some excellent skills throughout the contest with Lisa Newton setting up two excellent tries from a very effective right boot. Their back-line were also a continual threat with some superb pace and great running lines.

Nicola John, Quins captain commented after the match “It was a very enjoyable encounter and Tycroes showed real grit and determination throughout the match. I’m proud of the team and can’t wait for the final”.

The final of the Plate will be played at a venue to be confirmed on Sunday 21st May, kick off 12:30pm.

Quins Team: Hannah Roberts, Nicola John, Nadine Griffiths, Anwen Hopkins, Kim Parry, Jen Hustler, Marina Newth, Catrina Nicholas, Becky Davies, Jilly Holroyd, Zoe Prytherch, Gwawr Jones, Hayley Abson, Rebecca Davies.
