Welsh boxing icon Joe Calzaghe says he can’t wait to take to the ring in Wales’ big-fight venue...
Calzaghe was forced to pull out of last weekend’s boxing bonanza with an injured hand, but marveled at the atmosphere inside the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Calzaghe said: “It would have been great to have fought here, with the closed roof and everything.

“There was a great atmosphere and it’s been a fantastic occasion. Even though I was unable to box, I’ve still enjoyed myself watching my friends from the gym in action. “Of course I want to fight at the Millennium Stadium.

“It’s an ambition of mine and, after experiencing this atmosphere, it makes my desire burn even more. “It’d be great if we could get a big fight on here.”

Sports Network chief Frank Warren said: “The Millennium Stadium is a fantastic venue, no doubt about it. There’s great atmosphere,

And Warren knows how much affection the Welsh public has for their superstar World Champion fighter Calzaghe: “I can say without hesitation that we would have filled every seat if Joe Calzaghe was fit to have fought.”
