| Bergamasco picked up a thigh injury while playing for club side Stade Francais last weekend. Bergamasco, with over forty caps, managed just two appearances in last year's RBS Six Nations because of a facial injury.
Upon his return to the squad, the 26-year-old back-row man has widely been regarded as one of the key players in an Italy side that has impressed in this season's competition.
The Azzurri pushed Ireland, England and France close in their three championship games this year. He has been replaced in Berbizier's 24-squad man by the hugely experienced Aaron Persico.
Wales v Italy kicks off on Saturday, 1.30pm at the Millennium Stadium.
