| Warren Gatland wants to bring back provincial games for Wales' tour of New Zealand in 2010. |
Wales have not played provincial games on away tours in the last decade. But the Wales supremo feels that these games should be re-introduced and will benefit future international stars.
Gatland said: "Organising games against provinces is something we've been looking at. It will be a sort of pre-World Cup run.
"The length of the season is something we all need to look at but provincial games are a great opportunity for younger players. For some of them it's an opportunity to fail without affecting their careers too much.
"It's a real learning curve and we need to give players more opportunity on tour."
Gatland's men take on the World champions South Africa in Bloemfontein today (Sat).
And he revealed what he expects from his current crop of stars on his first tour in charge of the dragons.
Gatland added: "On tour you learn about players and they learn about getting the balance right.
"I'm not strict at all. The players can have a laugh and a drink but they have to work hard.
"It's about players taking responsibility with the senior guys setting the example."
