Mountain Ash Head Coach Jonathan Mason was over the moon after his side recorded a priceless 10-7 triumph over Division Two East big guns Penallta.
A last minute Adrian Owen try sealed the victory for the Old Firm club and Mason could not have been happier with his side’s performance.

He said: "The win can be put down to commitment. I think we surprised them in the contact area where we were direct and forceful and the boys deserve every accolade they receive after this win. With Ystrad Rhondda and Abercynon still to come to us this league is wide open."

Abercynon missed the chance to capitalise on Penallta’s slip up as they too to went down to their first defeat of the campaign, 32-10 at Ynysybwl. The visitors were comprehensively outplayed by their hosts who ran in four tries with No.8 Rob Lloyd powering over for two.

Centre Chris Morgan was Treherbert’s saviour as his late try secured a tight 13-6 win at Tredegar but there were no such problems for Builth Wells who raced in five tries against hapless Pill Harriers in a 41-0 triumph.

Brynmawr are the new leaders of Division Three East after prevailing 18-13 in the top of the table clash against Garndiffaith while Abergavenny rubbed salt into Garn’s wounds as they also by-passed them in the table after smashing Senghenydd 46-0.

Rhiwbina took Gwernyfed’s unbeaten record in Division Four as the Cardiff club recorded an impressive 29-10 away win while Nantyglo survived a scare at Monmouth to come through 7-5.
