Wales caretaker coach Nigel Davies will name his 26-man squad to face South Africa at the Millennium Stadium this autumn on Wednesday 14th November.
Davies, who has been appointed for the one-off match which is to boast the Prince William Cup as its prize, says he will select a squad with one single-minded ambition – to beat the Springboks.

“We’ve put plenty of performances together through the World Cup and before, but it’s about time we had a significant win,” said Davies.

“We could potentially be meeting the Rugby World Cup champions and you could also look at this fixture as the quarter-final that never was.

“If things had gone our way against Fiji we would’ve already faced South Africa, but we don’t have too long to wait now to find out what could’ve been.

“We will probably select a squad of 26 players, made up of the best players at the time of selection who we think have the best chance of beating the Springboks.

“We may have one eye on the future if there are some youngsters around who are on top form at the time and we will be watching regional rugby closely in the coming weeks.

“But our main priority is a victory. We have a point to prove and we are pleased to have this opportunity to be able to prove it against the side who are guaranteed at least a top four position at the Rugby World Cup.

“We are all smarting because we didn’t achieve our aims at the World Cup and we now have a chance to focus some of that anger and energy on South Africa.”
