| Wing Aled Bevan scored the crucial try with only five minutes remaining to avenge last season's 31-11 defeat at Stradey Park. Jason Forster, standing in for Wales Defence Coach Rowland Phillips, was full of admiration for his side's display.
He said: "It was a great advert for the Welsh Premiership. It's a difficult place to come to and I'm delighted with the win after they stuffed us here last year. That defeat stuck in some of the players minds and the attitude of the boys was fantastic. It was a great performance, we deserved the win and played the better rugby. It's a great start for us."
Last season's runners-up Ebbw Vale dropped two points after drawing 13-13 away to Maesteg, Pontypridd beat Swansea 33-20, while Glamorgan Wanderers lost 20-21 at home to Cross Keys.
Cardiff scraped to a 25-23 win against Aberavon at the Arms Park, Newport recorded a 27-15 win at Bridgend and Bedwas ran in eight tries, including a brace by Adam Hughes to beat Llandovery 54-25.
