The Blues Coach was delighted with a confidence-boosting start to their Magners League campaign but admits his side must do better.

Young said: “We are pleased with the win but we are frustrated that we didn’t do more and put them away. We will enjoy this win as it was a tough match but we need to look at ourselves and especially in the last 15 minutes when we were in a good position to win the game,we didn’t manage it very well.

“We knew they were always going to be a couple of points in it and Shaun had a good chance at the end but I thought the win was deserved.

“We need to improve our penalty count and we didn’t help ourselves. We tried to play too much rugby and we must learn from this going forward.”

With the Rugby World Cup beginning next week in France, Young believes it is imperative to accumulate as many wins as possible with key players away to launch their title bid.

Young said: “I thought we were by far the better side and it’s a good start for us. It’s now important that we pick up as many points now while the World Cup is on so we are not playing catch-up when our players return.”

Meanwhile, Sean Holley, Assistant Coach of the Ospreys, praised the Blues for their record number of home wins in the Magners League.

The Blues made it 16 straight league victories against their Welsh neighbours at the Arms Park in a tight affair in Cardiff and Holley believes it will be a difficult place for all visiting teams to win for the remainder of the season.

Holley said: “All credit goes to the Blues on a good win and also congratulations for the record of home wins in succession. This is a difficult place to come to and other teams will find that out. They will be strong contenders for our title and very hard to stop. But it is difficult to win any away games in this league.”

Shaun Connor’s last gasp miss from one of his easiest field positions of the night handed the Blues the early initiative in the title race. But Holley refused to blame the fly half whose miss cost the Ospreys from taking the points.

Holley said: “Shaun was striking the ball sweetly and his kicking game was excellent all night. It was such a close match and it was a shame it came down to that kick. If it had been from 70 yards he might have got it!”

The Ospreys will lick their wounds when they face another local derby against the Llanelli Scarlets at the Liberty Stadium a week on Tuesday.

Holley added: “It is vital we get a win, we have a good home record but it will be a huge match. We have a lot of time to prepare and we have areas to work on such as the line-out.

“But it is still early in the season and we are confident of turning it round.”
