| Alun Carter will initially develop his role within the consultancy sector which has been a focus of his career for more than a decade. He was already developing his off-the-field analysis whilst still an elite player for Newport RFC where he won two caps for Wales in 1991.
Alun Carter has been involved with analysis for the Welsh Rugby Union since 1995. During that time he has worked closely with the Welsh National team and their head coaches, including Kevin Bowring, Graham Henry and Mike Ruddock. In 2001, he was chosen to go on the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia as Technical Assistant.
Since October 2006 his work as Head of Analysis has coincided with the establishment of a new coaching and management team under Head Coach Gareth Jenkins.
Now he has decided to concentrate on his own development but leaves the Welsh Rugby Union with good memories.
Alun Carter said: "I would like to thank Rhodri Bown and Andrew Hughes, in the analysis department, for all their hard work. I would also like to mention the great support given by Dr Gareth Potter (Performance Analysis) from 1995 to 2006. I would like to thank Nick Bishop and Mike Wandsworth for their continued support.
"It has been a delight working with the new coaching team and developing the analysis processes during competition. It has been an intense period but that phase is now complete and I feel the time is right to concentrate on my own development. I wish all the best to the Welsh team going forward."
Welsh Rugby Union Group Chief Executive Roger Lewis said: "We fully understand Alun's decision and wish him well for the future."
"Analysis is a vital part of the armoury for coaches and players within the Wales squad and we are grateful for the time and effort Alun has put in on the analysis process."
