Neath have been invited to train with Worcester RFC in the last weekend of July to ensure they are in top condition ahead of their exciting pre-season friendlies.
Pre-season training is well under way for the new look squad at Neath Rugby but with their crunch match against Romania fast approaching, physical contact in a boot camp environment is top of the priority list for the coaching staff.

Players will be given motivational encouragement from the Grand Slam winning coaching team of Mike Ruddock and Clive Griffiths, who are now at the helm at the Guinness Premiership club.

Both clubs are linked where coaches are concerned. Jason Forster was Clive Griffiths’s right hand man last year at Doncaster RFC, Stuart Evans was Mike Ruddock’s Assistant Coach when he was Head Coach at Ebbw Vale and of course Rowland Phillips is now Defence Coach for Wales, a job previously held for five years by Clive Griffiths.

Neath will work closely with the Worcester squad which includes former Neath prop Darren Morris and All Black super star Rico Gear who has recently signed a three year deal with the Warriors to keep him at Sixways until 2009–2010.

The trip will be invaluable for the Welsh All Blacks, who will be given the opportunity to work with, and learn from a respected English Premiership club. Areas such as the line-out and set piece will be Neath’s focus during the weekend to ensure they are in tip top condition ahead of the Romania trip.

The backline will be given the opportunity to work on attacking and defensive plays with their opposite numbers from Six ways. A controlled game is planned for the weekend which will give Neath coaching staff the chance to look at players in a game environment, while taking full advantage on the indoor and outdoor training facilities available.

Neath Chairman Geraint Hawkes commented, "This will be an ideal opportunity for our squad to measure themselves against a fully professional unit already tipped to compete strongly in the Guinness Premiership next season.

"Our preparations are going to plan as both players and coaches are focusing on the job at hand. We have set ourselves higher standards again for the forthcoming season and having this opportunity to sample the next level of intensity will I am sure benefit everyone involved.

"We are grateful to Mike Ruddock and his team for giving us this opportunity to use their first class facilities and train with their squad. We still have four places available within our squad and although we are disappointed that these places are yet to be filled I am confident that this will be resolved soon.

"It is a shame that we will not have our full compliment of players as I am sure that the handful who will not travel would relish the experience.

"This trip is yet another demonstration of the dedication of Neath Rugby to the development of our players and their aspirations to achieve regional successes at the Ospreys. We are proud that our clubs ambitions are being recognized not only locally but also by those in wider rugby circles."

His sentiments were added to by Head Coach Rowland Phillips, who said, "Worcester will be an opportunity to get some quality training in ahead of our pre-season friendlies, in a changed environment."

Team Manager Stuart Evans concluded, "We will use the weekend as another opportunity to enhance our fitness skills and bond as a team ahead of Romania. We are delighted with the facilities on offer to us due to our association with Worcester which shows again that Neath Rugby are upping the standards."
