The WWRU National Cup and Plate semi-finals took place on Sunday April 1st 2007.
Tredegar Ironsides was the venue for Blaenau Gwent v Tylorstown in the Plate and Cardiff Quins v Llandaff North in the Cup whilst Llandovery hosted Dolgellau v Pontyclun (also in the Cup). The Neath v Whitland Plate fixture will be held at Birchgrove on Wednesday 4th April 2007 completing the semi-final matches.

In the Cup, the match between Cardiff Quins and Llandaff North was a battle to the last. With ten minutes to go, spectators were getting ready to sup a few more beers into extra time but ended up being able to do this in the warmth of the club house due to a late try scored by Hayley Baxter from an interception resulting in a 19-12 victory for the Quins.

The other game saw Pontyclun coming through as 24-5 victors over Dolgellau in a well-fought match with some impressive rugby being played by both teams. Best wishes go to Sian Owens (Llandaff North) and Elen Evans (Dolgellau) who got injured during these games.

Quins Captain Becky Davies commented: “It was a very tough fixture and credit goes to all our players for sticking at it for the full eighty minutes. We now look forward to playing Pontyclun in the Cup Final and hope that it will be an equally as exciting game.”

In the Plate, Blaenau Gwent, who have not beaten Tylorstown for a number of seasons, this time proved too strong and won convincingly 53-16.

Claire Wilson, Fixture Secretary of Blaenau Gwent remarked: “The team clicked at the right moment to beat Tylorstown for the first time in more than five years. It’s a great boost to the team and an honour to be in the finals; the players are excited already!”

Blaenau Gwent will meet either Whitland or Neath who will be fighting it out on Wednesday evening at Birchgrove. Both are new sides this season and are out to prove that they are worthy of a place in the Plate Final. Finals of both the Cup and Plate take place on Sunday 15th April 2007, venues TBC.
